The mission of the Coon Rapids Ice Center Skating School is to provide a friendly, comfortable, and fun learning environment for skaters of all ages and abilities to learn the basics of ice skating. We use a science based approach to teach the fundamentals of balance and edge control. Our staff is trained in the basics of biomechanics and sports science as they apply to the laws of mechanics and physics of human performance. We use this knowledge to help each skater reach his or her full potential on the ice.
Group lessons are offered beginning each September, January, and June for figure and hockey skaters ages four and up of all abilities. For the advanced skater, Freestyle, contract, and off-ice conditioning classes are also available along with semi-private or private lessons. View the Skating Lessons and Registration page for schedule information.
Students are taught by professional instructors under the direction of Skating School Director Karen Meck who is a Professional Skaters Association (PSA) master-rated coach.
The winter lesson session culminates with the production of the annual Ice Fantasy Skating Show held the last weekend of April.
